Vanguard Audio V44S Gen2 Stereo FET Condenser Microphone

The Vanguard Audio V44S gen2 is a twin-capsule stereo FET condenser microphone built around two independently rotatable capsules, each offering three switchable polar patterns. It is designed for engineers who want one mic stand to cover X/Y, Blumlein, or mid-side stereo capture without swapping hardware between takes, whether tracking a drum overhead pair, an acoustic ensemble, or a room mic on an orchestral date.

Each of the two 34mm capsules carries a 26.4mm, 3-micron gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm in an edge-terminated layout, seated in an open-weave headbasket that keeps internal reflections low. The gen2 revision reworks the rotation collar for a smoother, more secure feel and extends the swivel range to 120 degrees with 15-degree click stops, making it easier to repeat X/Y or Blumlein angles between sessions. Inside, the electronics run transformerless and electronically balanced, built around a cryogenically treated, high-grade FET and US-sourced low-noise resistors chosen to keep the noise floor in check given the added circuit complexity of a dual-capsule design.

Signal leaves the mic body over a single 5-pin cable and is split by the included utility box into usable stereo feeds, one of which is a transformer-isolated, phase-inverted version of the top capsule's output for mid-side decoding on a standard two-channel interface. The kit ships ready for stereo work: the splitter box itself, a heavy-duty 5-pin cable, the VLSM shockmount sized for the mic's larger body, a padded pinewood storage box, and a locking aluminum flight case.
