Sontronics SIGMA 2 - Active Ribbon Microphone

SIGMA 2 is a phantom-powered ribbon microphone tuned for the more delicate side of ribbon miking — vocals, speech, solo woodwind, strings and guitar amps — where high sensitivity and a naturally smooth top end matter more than raw SPL handling. Like the rest of Sontronics’ ribbon range, its active circuit means the mic outputs a healthier signal than a passive ribbon design, so it behaves well with ordinary preamps instead of demanding huge amounts of clean gain.

Inside is the same 1.8-micron ribbon and neodymium magnet arrangement used in the mic it descends from, paired with a custom-wound transformer built specifically for this circuit. Sontronics’ RFI filter is fitted as standard, guarding against radio-frequency interference on stage as well as in the studio, and the mic is hand-built in the UK with a unique shockmount and ABS flightcase included for storage and transport.
