    Overview

Universal Audio Volt 4 Gen 2 USB Audio Interface

The Universal Audio Volt 4 Gen 2 is a 12-in/6-out USB audio interface with two Tone Shaping preamps, an ADAT or S/PDIF optical input and MIDI In and Out. It converts audio at up to 32-bit / 192 kHz over USB-C.

Two combo XLR/TRS mic/line inputs and two front-panel Hi-Z instrument inputs handle vocals and instruments. Tone Shaping offers three modes, Warmth, Focus and Shine, at up to 60 dB of gain, and each channel has independent +48V phantom power. The optical input accepts up to eight channels of ADAT at 44.1/48 kHz for expansion, and additional line I/O, MIDI In and Out and an onboard USB hub connect outboard gear, keyboards, drum machines and controllers.

A full-colour Smart Display shows inputs, levels and settings, with Auto-Gain and Clip Protection for setting safe levels. The Volt 4 Gen 2 is USB bus-powered and class-compliant on Mac, iPad and iPhone, uses the UA ASIO driver on Windows, and includes built-in loopback. It works with UAD Console and LUNA, and the UAD Volt Studio Bundle is included.

Auto-Gain sets it in about 10 seconds.
    01Set the level

Auto-Gain sets it in about 10 seconds.

Select a channel, press AUTO and play or sing at your loudest level. Clip Protection applies a hardware limiter before the analog-to-digital converters.

    Warmth, Focus or Shine.
    02Choose a tone

    Warmth, Focus or Shine.

Each mode applies an EQ curve and harmonic saturation derived from analog hardware, and saturation increases as you add gain.

    Up to eight digital channels.
    03Expand over ADAT

    Up to eight digital channels.

The optical input carries eight ADAT channels at 44.1/48 kHz, four at 88.2/96 kHz and two at 176.4/192 kHz, or two channels of S/PDIF.
