Overview

HALO is a dynamic microphone built for one purpose — standing in front of a guitar cabinet and delivering a punchy, present tone without needing EQ to fix it afterward. Sontronics built it around the capsule technology from their STC-80 handheld dynamic, adapted here for close-miking amps rather than vocals, so the result carries a guitarist’s priorities rather than a general-purpose broadcast mic’s.

What sets HALO apart physically is its circular open frame, which suspends the dynamic capsule on four spring mounts rather than housing it in a solid barrel body. That suspension isolates the capsule from cabinet vibration, stage rumble and floor-transmitted noise, so what comes through the cable is the amp’s actual tone rather than mechanical noise riding along with it.
