Sontronics MERCURY - Variable-Pattern Valve Condenser Microphone

MERCURY is Sontronics’ variable-pattern valve microphone, built around a genuine tube circuit but controlled through a power supply that lets you sweep continuously between polar patterns rather than clicking between a handful of fixed positions. Omni, cardioid and figure-of-eight sit at points along that sweep, with every shade in between available too, making MERCURY as much a mic-placement tool as a tone-shaping one.

A European-made 12AT7/ECC81 valve drives the circuit, chosen for a rich, rounded character rather than the brighter edge some other tube types produce. Sontronics hand-builds the mic in the UK using premium electronic components selected for unusually tight tolerances, and backs it up with an external power supply, shockmount and flightcase in the box, alongside an onboard -10dB pad and 75Hz high-pass filter for handling louder or bassier sources.
